The Narcotic Drugs Amendment Bill was passed by the Australian Federal Government in February 2016, legalizing medical cannabis in the country and establishing a licensing scheme for its cultivation and manufacture. The export of medicinal cannabis products was legalized in February 2018 through the Narcotic Drugs Amendment (Cannabis) Regulations 2018.

Australia’s Parliamentary Budget Office estimates that the legalization of recreational cannabis would bring $28 billion worth of tax revenue.
